THE North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) Corporation has vowed to meet the requirements of Valenzuela City Mayor Rex Gatchalian to lift the suspension of its business permits there.
"As stated in our previous communications with him, we have prepared our action plans to address [traffic] concerns," the NLEX said in its statement.
NLEX vowed to provide specific solutions to various traffic-causing problems in the city such as "RFID (radio frequency identification) stickers that easily wear out, sensors that cannot promptly read RFID stickers, and missing load."
These problems with the NLEX's RFID system has caused massive traffic jams in the city, which prompted the mayor to suspend the expressway's license permits.
NLEX also commits to transfer existing RFID sticker installation and account reloading in the Karuhatan and Mindanao toll plazas effective immediately to improve traffic flow in nearby areas.
"NLEX management is one with the Valenzuela City government and other Metro Manila local government units and the Metro Manila Development Authority in taking concrete steps to alleviate the daily heavy traffic congestion in the metropolis, especially as we approach the Christmas season," NLEX said.
NLEX said the full implementation of the Department of Transportation Department Order 2020-12 requiring cashless and contactless transactions on December 1 was combined with the surge in Manila-bound commuters from the long holiday, the seasonal build-up, the lifting of the truck ban and number coding scheme caused inconvenience and delays, causing massive traffic jams.
"We aim to ensure a more hassle-free implementation of the cashless toll payment system and to give the best possible travel experience to our customers," the expressway management said.
