IN A bid to provide safe and clean water to residents of Barangay San Miguel in San Simon town, the local government and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) are constructing a brand new water supply facility.
Municipal Engineer Benigno Bonus said the soon-to-rise Level III Potable Water System will replace the three decades old existing facility operated by the San Miguel Cooperative Water System (SMCWS).
"We are improving the existing system by installing modern and bigger machines to can help cater more concessionaires," Bonus said.
He added that the DILG, under its Local Government Support Fund, is providing P4-million fund while the local government is providing P2-million counterpart.
Mayor Abundio Punsalan Jr., for his part, said around 500 households of Barangay San Miguel will benefit from the said project.
He also stressed the importance of preserving the existing water system as it is the only one that is being managed by a non-profit group in town.
"This water system was donated by the Mother Rosa Memorial Foundation way back 1980s and we are lucky that is was maintained after all these years. And today, we are rehabilitating it to improve its services and benefit more Simonians," he said.
SMCWS president Federico Navarro, meanwhile, expressed gratitude to DILG and local government for their support to the cooperative and the people of San Miguel.
Navarro also assured the safety and cleanliness of the water, especially for drinking and cooking purposes.
"We are very proud to say that our water is the tastiest and cheapest at least in San Simon and we intend to keep it that way for at least the next 30 years again," he said.
