TRANSPORTATION Secretary Arthur Tugade has signed an agreement for the P1-billion fuel subsidy, which will be divided to 136,230 jeepney drivers nationwide.
The Department of Transportation (DOTr), Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) and Landbank of the Philippines have forged a tripartite agreement for the release of the funds.
Tugade said he signed the agreement in anticipation of the downloading of the P1 billion to bonafide jeepney drivers across the country, based on the Train Law.
He said this is to lay the framework and documentation for the immediate implementation of the program upon receipt of the budget from the Department of Budget and Management (DBM).
The National Government earlier assured that the fuel subsidy will be used directly by public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers to allow them cope up with the increasing oil prices.
The funds will be distributed to legitimate franchise holders and drivers of PUVs through the Pantawid Pasada Program that was first implemented in 2018.
