THE University of Assumption (UA) Cinense Library on Thursday held their pre-commencement of the province-wide "Aldo ning Amanung Sisuan" as part of the five "55 projects" program of the university library here.
A seminar workshop on spoken word poetry, a lecture about Blockchain Technology, and a week-long art exhibit organized by the UA Senior High School Department were featured in the event, all included in the 55 library activities under the UA five "55 projects" program.
The university's five "55 projects" program is their own version of celebrating the school's 55th founding anniversary, which will last until the end of the year.
The spoken word poetry workshop was led by Paper Soul artist and medical technology student Mark Bayani while the Blockchain Technology lecture was addressed by Paper Soul Founder and Blockchain Founder Francis Palo.
Paper Soul is an advocacy spoken word organization composed of Kapampangan artists from Angeles City, who all have a mission to bring back poetry in the Philippines in their own artistic manner and spread awareness of the poetry's importance to the old and new generation.
Bayani talked about his passion for spoken word poetry and his experience with his group Paper Soul before reciting his own poem composition called "Bahaghari" which pitched about his perspective towards the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trangender and Queer (LGBTQ+) community.
"Being an artist doesn't need to have a huge reputation, talent or popularity. Art has something to do with love and passion. I learned that I need to have that passion, which came to a point where I had time to choose my advocacy," Bayani said.
Palo meanwhile discussed the opportunities and processes on how to earn by using a Blockchain curating-content platform called "Steemit."
"Blockchain is the next big thing in terms of invention in our time. It teaches students how to promote their artworks and sell them online. They will have an opportunity to put their names out there via the global market or internationally while earning money," Palo said.
UA Director of Libraries Roilingel Calilung said that the school will be opening more facilities, introducing new services and preparing different activities for the students to bring the library closer to them and the whole UA academic community.
The other 55 projects include "55 Books Every Assumptionist Should Read"; "55 Human Books"; "55 Things about the Cinense Library"; and "55 UA Best Catholic Books".
The attendees were officers of the Speech Club and staffers of Lumen publication of the grade school department, and students from the Information Technology, Bachelor of Library and Information Science (BLIS), and Supreme Student Council of Junior High School.
The rest of the activities like soft launching of the university library faculty lounge and Paciano B. Aniceto Garden will take place on August 31, the day of "Aldo ning Amanung Sisuan."
