THE way we consume content has always been driven by technology. From Facebook Watch to Twitter's live video broadcasts, it never really stopped.
They tackled Snapchat. Now they're gunning for YouTube. But whether or not Instagram (IG) inflicts a threat on the world's most popular video-streaming platform, here's something to stir-up all influencers and brand-centred folks out there.
Recently, IG launched a feature that allows users to stream videos up to an hour long, (that's a big leap from the usual one minute) and has already appeared within the app, bringing a game-changing type of activity to a scenario that already consumes a whole lot of our free time.
It exists as a stand-alone app, too, for those who want all full-screen video all the time, making it a platform all its own, presenting video after video to you for as long as we can take it.
And yes, you'll be able to note that the footage is vertical, as this is intended to be a mobile-first experience. More so, it will start playing videos when you open up the app, thus, you won't have to search for anything before you find some footage. Consequently, the app will pull in clips creators "you love most" and are following in the main Instagram app.
At the end of the day, this development is no surprise, considering that IG clearly, hasn't been coy about its scheme to transform itself to more than just a photo-sharing based app as the company introduced 'stories' and live broadcasts in 2016, which have since become two of its well-used features.
With a billion monthly active users, I'm certain that the new hub will have no trouble growing even more at a rapid pace, engaging content makers who want to reach a larger audience, especially one driven by millennials and iGens.
