TINGOG Sinirangan partylist on Thursday, January 3, delivered at least 100 sacks of rice to the two towns in Northern Samar in the wake of Tropical Depression "Usman."
Mavette Manicani, the spokesperson of Tingog, said that the delivery of food supply is urgent in Catarman and Lope de Vega after the two municipalities were battered by heavy rains and floods last week.
The group led by two of its nominees Jaime Go and Alexis Yu who traveled from Tacloban to deliver 50 sacks of rice to Catarman and another 50 sacks of rice to Lope de Vega.
"Rice and water supply are scarce in the town. We hope that Lope de Vega will get the necessary help the soonest possible time," said Manicani a day after making a phone call to Mayor Ana Palloc of Lope de Vega.
According to Palloc, they are expecting that more help will come as interior and upland villages in their town remained inaccessible and without electricity since January 1.
Affected residents are in need of housing materials, food, water, hygiene kits, and used clothing, the mayor added.
The flood brought by heavy rains affected more than 14,700 people in their town.
The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office in Lope de Vega reported that at least five people perished during the flood while two others were missing.
The flood totally destroyed 389 houses while 729 were partially damaged in Lope de Vega.
