TWELVE of the more than 20 house helpers have qualified to compete in the first-ever Search for Miss KasamBESHIE 2018 in Zamboanga City.

Jerrick Gerard Go, Employees Compensation Commission's regional program manager, said these came about as they passed the audition for the "Kasambahay Pageant" to be conducted on Saturday, May 5, at the East Wing Activity Center of KCC Mall de Zamboanga.

The pageant is one of the activities of the month-long Labor Day celebration, according to Go.

The 12 official candidates are the following: Mercedita Gaballo, Nhop Naigar, Evalyn Medallo, Higenia Baco, Mary Jane Samputon, Maribel Lotomos, Sandra Daguino, Leticia Bautista, Roselia Agustin, Merlinda Liganan, May Selaras, and Angrel Sweet Perez.

All of the candidates except for Perez, who is from Zamboanga del Norte, are from Zamboanga City.

The grand winner of the pageant will bring home P15,000 in cash and other gift packs from event sponsors.

Also to be awarded during the event is the "idol" employer, who will be nominated by the Kasambahays.

The search for Miss KasamBESHIE 2018 is aimed to drum up more awareness on Republic Act 10361 otherwise known as the "Domestic Workers Act" or "Batas Kasambahay".

The RA 10361 is a landmark law that covers protection and welfare of domestic workers and strengthens respect, protection and promotion of the rights and welfare of domestic workers. (VoxPop Philippines)
