TWO people were killed while 31 others were injured after a Rural Transit bus and a sports utility vehicle collided in Tungawan town in Zamboanga Sibugay province on Saturday, June 9.
The fatalities were identified as Rex Excosio, 29, and Emeryl Laurice Baird, 29, residents of Boalan and Putik, Zamboanga City, respectively.
Chief Inspector Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, said Excosio and Baird were traveling in an SUV from Zamboanga City to Ipil town when they collided at a curved portion of the road with the Rural Transit Mindanao, Inc. bus which came from Ipil.
The incident happened around 1 p.m. Saturday in Purok 2 in the village of Upper Tungawan. Excosio and Baird did not make it to the hospital alive.
Galvez said the SUV was wrecked while the bus fell on its side because of the impact.
Two of the 31 wounded victims, bus passengers Ana Patricia Alterado, 19 and Lolita Alterado, were hospitalized.
The bus driver, Gene Roso, 48, and the other passengers sustained minor injuries.
