THE Department of Agriculture (DA), through its Adaptation and Mitigation Initiatives in Agriculture (AMIA) project, has distributed native swine and upgrade native chicken to two association of farmers in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay.
Department of Agriculture Regional Executive Director Rad Donn Cedeño said the beneficiaries in the livestock dispersal are the Mali Little Baguio United Farmers Association and the La Victoria Subanen Farmers Association in Imelda, Zamboanga Sibugay.
Cedeño said they received 38 heads of native swine and 120 heads of upgraded native chicken, which is also known to be more resistant to pests and diseases.
Cedeño said the project aims to provide climate-resilient interventions to promote agricultural resiliency in the local community through diversified farming activities where the integration of farm animals help improve the livelihood of farmers.
The AMIA project is in partnership with the Dumalinao Swine Breeding Center (DSBC) and Mahayag Livestock Breeding Center (MLBC).
Cedeño said the distribution of native swine and chicken, which was held Thursday, September 10, was spearheaded by Ernie Camacho, AMIA Project Leader in Imelda, Zamboanga Sibugay, in coordination with Mayor Roselyn Silva.
Meanwhile, the DA has conducted on Thursday, September 10, a Livestock Outreach Program in coordination with the municipal government of Liloy, Zamboanga del Norte.
The livestock services conducted in Goin village, Liloy, were Deworming, Artificial Insemination (AI), Vitamin Injection and Anti-rabies vaccination.
Majority of the beneficiaries of the outreach program are Indigenous People (IP) livestock breeders and owners in Liloy, Zamboanga del Norte.
