Detainee escapes in Zambo Norte town

A PURSUIT operation is on to recapture a detainee who escaped from detention in the Municipality of Roxas, Zamboanga del Norte, the police reported Monday, June 8.

Police Major Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, said object of the manhunt is Welly Celino Catoy, 21, who is facing charges for illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.

Galvez said Catoy escaped around 9:20 p.m. Sunday, June 7, from the lock-up cell of the Roxas Municipal Police Station. The escapee is a resident of Panampalay village, Roxas.

Galvez said Catoy managed to escape when one of the policemen opened the lock-up cell to bring in another detainee after undergoing fingerprint lifting procedures.

She said the escapee without upper garment and wearing black short pants ran toward the back door and jumped to the neighboring residential area.

Coordination has been made with other law enforcement agency to assist in the search of the escapee, added Galvez. (VoxPop Zamboanga)
