ONE of the two suspects behind the gun slay of a businesswoman last Wednesday was killed in a hot pursuit in Zamboanga del Sur province, the police said Friday, September 28.
Chief Inspector Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, identified the slain suspect as George Paglinawan, 39, a resident of Kapamanok village in San Pablo, this province.
Galvez said Paglinawan was killed in a hot pursuit operation at 5:10 p.m. Thursday at Purok 1-B in Switch village, Ramon Magsaysay.
She said Paglinawan, upon seeing the approaching policemen, pulled a handgun and opened fire but missed his target. One of the policemen returned fire and fatally hit him.
She said Paglinawan was identified as one of the two people behind the gun slay of Nellie Paso Romo, 45, businesswoman, a resident of Lilo-an, Bonifacio, Misamis Occidental, and temporarily residing at Happy Valley, Tambulig.
She said the identity of Paglinawan was established through the video captured by a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera and information given by a confidential informant.
Romo, accompanied by her two workers, were walking towards the entrance gate of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Happy Valley, at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday when the two motorcycle-riding suspects appeared and shot her thrice.
Romo's workers, Nielton Hemoros Cagas and Ma. Verlma Cagas, were unscathed.
Romo died while undergoing treatment in the hospital. (VoxPop Philippines)
