A SOLDIER was killed in a clashed against New People's Army (NPA) rebels in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, the military said Friday, April 24.
Lieutenant Colonel Manaros Boransing, II, Army's 97th Infantry Battalion commander, said the clash broke out around 7:40 a.m. Friday, April 24, in Balukbahan village, Bayog town.
The clash occurred three days after the same military unit clashed on Tuesday, April 21, against the NPA rebels in the same village.
Boransing said the troops were on combat operation when the clashed Friday against the NPA rebels that resulted to the death of a soldier.
He withheld the identity of the slain soldier who expired while being airlifted to a hospital.
Boransing added that troops were deployed to track down the NPA rebels.
The troops have recovered war material, including an assault rifle and improvised bomb, when they clash on Tuesday, April 21, against the NPA rebels in Balukbahan. (VoxPop Zamboanga)
