ZAMBOANGA City Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar said the city government supports the initiatives of Congress, apparently referring to the controversial flyover projects, but said these require proper traffic management.
"We are consulting experts and they are recommending that road widening should come
first," Salazar said.
Salazar reasoned out that a flyover will not be feasible if the number of lanes on the affected road is limited.
"The proposal must jibe with the proper transport management," she added.
She said that as early as 2017, the city government had already endorsed the project and was prepared to relocate and rehabilitate its properties that
will be affected by the road widening to give way to the implementation of the flyover projects.
This was the reason for the agreement between the city government and the Banco Cooperativa on the latter's relocation to another site.
The City Engineer's Office is preparing the estimate amount needed to relocate and rehabilitate other infrastructure facilities that will be affected like the
cold storage facility.
