GOVERNOR Wilter Palma of Zamboanga Sibugay has ordered the conduct of a massive campaign to contain the cases of measles in the province.
Palma issued the order to the Integrated Provincial Health Office (Ipho) as report reached his office that a high number of dengue cases was recorded since January 2018.
Palma said the alarming increase of measles cases since January requires "a pro-active response from the Provincial Government."
The Zamboanga Sibugay Ipho has recorded 133 cases of measles for the first quarter of this year, up by 20 cases from 113 registered in the same period of last year.
Twenty-three more cases had been recorded for the month of April until May 18, or for a total of 156 measles cases registered since January.
The Ipho has aimed to immunize 75,000 children aged six to 59 months throughout the entire province.
Zamboanga Sibugay, which has of two congressional districts, consists of 16 municipalities. (VoxPop Philippines)
