FIVE Zamboangueño athletes have bagged medals in the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Youth and Junior World Championships on Thursday, May 1, 2025, in Lima, Peru.
Dr. Cecil Atilano, City Sports Development officer, said there are Jhodie Peralta, Albert Ian Delos Santos, Jay-R Colonia, Alexsandra Ann Diaz, and Angeline Colonia.
Atilano said Peralta delivered three gold medals in the Youth/Junior women's 55-kilogram (kg) category, while Delos Santos bagged two gold medals in the Junior men's 67-kg category.
Atilano noted that Delos Santos won the Youth world title at 61-kg two years ago.
Colonia bagged two gold medals (clean and jerk, and total) and silver (snatch) in the Youth men's 49-kg category in his first international exposure.
Diaz dominated the Youth women's 45-kg snatch and total and was third in the clean and jerk.
Angeline also won one silver and one bronze medals in the Junior women's 45-kg category.
The Youth division is for athletes aged 13 to 17 years old while the Junior division are for competitors aged 15 to 20.
Atilano said the Zamboangueño athletes form part of the Philippine delegation to the competition in Lima Peru. (VoxPop Zamboanga)
