THE 20th Davao City Council has successfully cleared all ordinances and resolutions from 2024, ensuring a fresh start for legislative work in 2025.
Vice Mayor J. Melchor P. Quitain Jr. announced during the Aprubado sa Konseho session on January 8, 2024, at the Sangguniang Panlungsod that all pending items from 2024 had been resolved.
“This year about items already past items we made sure na matapos yun lahat (This year, we made sure to finish all past items),” he said.
He acknowledged that some developments, such as condominium and subdivision projects, take time to comply with requirements, and are still ongoing. However, landmark ordinances have been passed, and the council is now ready to handle new items in 2025.
With zero backlogs, Quitain underscored the council’s ability to process renewals efficiently, as their focus is no longer divided by old items.
He praised the council members for completing their tasks, including crafting ordinances and resolving committee-endorsed items promptly.
Quitain stated that all items from 2022, 2023, and 2024 have been completed. He expressed hope for a fuller agenda in the future to allow the council to work on new legislation that will benefit Dabawenyos.
Councilor Jesus Joseph Zozobrado III, majority floor leader and chair of the committee on rules, privileges, laws, and ordinances, shared the same optimism. He said they aim to contribute more to Davao City’s welfare by passing essential ordinances and resolutions.
Earlier, Quitain had commended the council’s “very satisfactory” performance in 2024, highlighting their efficiency in managing assigned tasks. The council officially wrapped up its 2024 legislative work during a special session on December 23, 2024. RGP
